Sailing

Sailing around the North Coast offers an opportunity to experience the wealth of marine mammal life and dramatic landscapes of these coastal shores. Don’t miss Rathlin Island, quaint fishing villages and towns and Northern Ireland’s un-crowded waters with some breath taking scenery. Visit the Walled City of Derry- Londonderry astride the River Foyle with its marina, which will be at the centre of world attention in July 2012 when it becomes the first Northern Irish city to host the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Derry-Londonderry will also be the inaugural UK City of Culture in 2013! Carrickfergus marina offers excellent berthing facilities for visitors and from Glenarm you can easily sail anywhere; the islands of Islay, Mull and Jura are only a day’s sail away. Ballycastle has a superb marina situated on the spectacular North Antrim Coast with stunning scenery and a plethora of activities on offer while Coleraine Marina is ideally situated in sheltered water and convenient for exploring the wider NorthCoast. It offers excellent scope for marine travel around Ireland and to Scotland, and do not miss the yearly ‘Auld Lammas Fair’ in Ballycastle which is famous for its edible treats, dulse and yellow man.
